Where is soccer most popular?

Where is soccer most popular?

Soccer is played in pretty much every country in the world. England, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, Netherlands and Germany are considered the biggest countries for soccer.

England: The top league in England is called the Premier League where the best 20 teams in England and a few in Wales play. The top four teams qualify for the Champions League (European Cup). Each year, the league cup, community shield and FA cup is played by teams from the different leagues in England.

World Cup: The World Cup is among one of the most widely viewed sporting events in the world. The tournament runs every four years. The competition is usually made up of 32 countries but earlier this year they have said for the next World Cup there will be 42 countries participating. Countries qualify from their continents the year before the competition. The next World cup is in 2018 and will be held in different cities in Russia.

Champions League: The Champions League is considered the biggest soccer club competition in the world. The best teams in each country in Europe qualify and the tournament is held every year. There is also a European competition called the Europa League which is for the slightly weaker clubs in Europe.

Where, how and when did soccer start?

Where, how and when did Soccer start?

Soccer is one of the biggest sports in the world. It is played all over the world. China played a ball-kicking game in the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC. A leather ball and net were used. The Chinese game was called cuju. Ball games were also very popular in ancient Greece and Rome. Soccer was not yet discovered yet but they played ball kicking games.

The actual growth of the sport soccer began in England. When the sport started to be played in England, there wasn’t many restrictions in the rules so there was a lot of violence. As the violence in the sport was so fierce, soccer was banned by King Edward III in 1365. The century after, the Scottish king is believed to have said, ‘No man shall play football’.

A game was played in the earlier times in France called ‘la choule’. This was also banned in the country because of the violent behaviour of the players.

There is not actual proof on where, how and when soccer began but there are many various sources suggesting where one of the largest sports in the world started off. England is the country that changed the basics of the ball kicking game into the sport of soccer (football).
