Where is soccer most popular?
Soccer is
played in pretty much every country in the world. England, Spain, Italy,
Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, Netherlands and Germany are considered the biggest
countries for soccer.
England: The
top league in England is called the Premier League where the best 20 teams in
England and a few in Wales play. The top four teams qualify for the Champions League
(European Cup). Each year, the league cup, community shield and FA cup is played
by teams from the different leagues in England.
World Cup:
The World Cup is among one of the most widely viewed sporting events in the
world. The tournament runs every four years. The competition is usually made up
of 32 countries but earlier this year they have said for the next World Cup
there will be 42 countries participating. Countries qualify from their
continents the year before the competition. The next World cup is in 2018 and
will be held in different cities in Russia.
Champions
League: The Champions League is considered the biggest soccer club competition
in the world. The best teams in each country in Europe qualify and the
tournament is held every year. There is also a European competition called the
Europa League which is for the slightly weaker clubs in Europe.
